In some cases, pingueculae can become swollen and inflamed, a condition called pingueculitis. While not dangerous, it can cause some discomfort. Pingueculitis means inflammation is present. The itchiness lessened and most importantly, that gritty feeling lightened up. However, it may be considered if the pinguecula causes chronic eye irritation or vision problems. They also help relieve that annoying feeling as if you have something in your eye.
